Pennant win for Heads

-

BARWON Heads capped off a sensational season by claiming the Division 1 women’s pennant title on Friday.

Needing a win to secure the premiership, Barwon Heads cruised to a convincing 4/1 win over Portarlington.

The victory meant Barwon Heads got through the season undefeated.

Merran Poole secured a 3&2 victory over Portarlington’s Jen Edmanson, Anna Jamieson defeated Bec Waldron 5&3 and Ann Manuell defeated Jackie Rowe 6&5 to secure wins for Barwon Heads.

Bec Bain also scored a forfeit victory over Jeanette Barclay.

Portarlington captain Ange Foott secured her club’s only win, defeating Serena Chirnside 5&4.

Thirteenth Beach finished the season in second, defeating Curlewis, a side many expected to defend its 2017 pennant crown.

In the other big battle of Division 1, Clifton Springs was relegated with Anglesea and Torquay narrowly avoiding the axe.

CURLEWIS easily accounted for Barwon Heads 5/0 to secure the Division 2 title and earn a spot in Division 1 for next season.

The club held its nerve in the final round with Lonsdale and The Sands a chance to take the title if they slipped up against Barwon Heads.

Thirteenth Beach was relegated with East Geelong surviving by one individual match.

DIVISION 3 went down to the wire with all six teams in contention heading into the final day.

Torquay was in pole position, only needing to roll Anglesea to secure the flag and it managed it with a narrow 3/2 victory.

OCEAN Grove went through the season undefeated to claim Division 4, Anglesea triumphed in Division 5 and Torquay snared Division 6.

CLIFTON Springs was crowned champions in Division 7.
