Back home, showtime for Suns

- TOM BOSWELL

THE Commonwealth Games entertained sporting fans from around the world and Touk Miller says it’s now time for the Suns to put on a show of their own at Metricon Stadium.

An upgraded big screen and seats is all the evidence left by the Games and the revamped ground will finally host a Suns side undergoing its own evolution under new coach Stuart Dew.

The Suns will play at home for the first time this season in today’s Round 11 game against Geelong, a match that doubles as inaugural captain Gary Ablett’s homecoming.

“I’m super excited,” Miller said. “I’ve been looking forward to the day we get to come back on the field at Metricon.

“The Commonwealth Games were good and produced a lot of entertainment while it was here, but it is nice to finally get back and hopefully strut our stuff out there.”

Gold Coast is 15th on the ladder after nine games and has lost the past four straight, but Michael Rischitelli said a return of some normality should benefit its on-field performances.

“We have been on the road for a while now,” he said.

“It’s good to be back home knowing we don’t have to travel every week and what time we need to catch a plane.

“We will have a bit more structure and will take full advantage of that.

“The club was really good with the travelling. There was a lot to worry about and they put things in place that made our job easier.”

Suns chief executive Mark Evans said the game felt like Round 1 again, while praising the standard of the stadium.

“The Suns are back on the Gold Coast, and after travelling all across the country and around the world I can honestly say you have got to love where you live,” he said.
