Disability courses at Gordon
STUDENTS will be able to gain qualifications to work in the region’s growing disability support sector through a new Gordon course.
TAFE provider The Gordon will run a new statewide course introduction to the NDIS from next year — to ensure the scheme has enough skilled workers to support its 100,000 Victorian clients.
Developed by the Victorian Skills Commissions, it will give students basic training so they can move on to specialist courses such as individual support, community services and disability and allied health.
All courses are listed on the Victorian Government’s free TAFE course list for next year.
Gordon chief executive Lisa Line said the course would help build Geelong’s disability workforce.
“Through this new course offering, the TAFE sector will be helping to build the disability workforce of the future,” Ms Line said. “This workforce will deliver highquality support to achieve the best possible outcomes for people with disability.”
Training and Skills Minister Gayle Tierney also announced an additional $2.69 million in TAFE community service funding for The Gordon.
The funds will be used to deliver programs and support the Geelong and Wyndham region’s students and communities seek and achieve their educational and career goals.
Ms Line said Government’s support of The Gordon’s community programs and services was “critical” in helping the education provider continue to deliver positive student outcomes,
“While the NDIS course is a new community-oriented initiative, this funding will allow The Gordon to continue its commitments to a suite of important programs and services that have proven effective in delivering positive outcomes,” she said.
