Roadworks smooth out city’s worst
MOTORISTS will benefit from $10 million worth of road improvements finished in Geelong this week.
Victorian Roads Minister Luke Donnellan announced the Government had finished 12km of works on some of the city’s busiest roads.
Crews worked seven days a week to smooth damaged sections of the roads, including Broderick Rd to Cox Rd in Corio, Cowies Creek Bridge to Separation St in North Geelong, Ballarat Rd and Midland Hwy to James Harrison Bridge in Geelong, and Surf Coast Hwy to Ghazeepore Rd in Belmont and Waurn Ponds.
“These works will create a better ride for the 20,000 driv- ers that use this road to get to work or take their kids to school every day,” Mr Donellan said.
“We’re delivering the biggest road maintenance blitz the southwest has ever seen — and that means safer, stronger and smoother roads for local communities.”
The Geelong works follow improvements to key sections of Geelong-Portarlington Rd, Terang-Mortlake Rd, CarlisleColac Rd, Fyans St, the Bellarine Highway, Barwon Heads Rd, Otway Lighthouse Rd and Geelong-Ballan Rd.
State Labor MPs Christine Couzens (Geelong) and John Eren (Lara) welcomed the improvements.
“We’ve improved the journey for anyone travelling around and through Geelong and local drivers are already benefiting from this vital investment,” Ms Couzens said.
Mr Eren said: “This resurfacing will not only benefit local residents and freight drivers, but will also provide a smoother experience for tourists travelling through Geelong to the Bellarine Peninsula or Great Ocean Road,”
