Building set to start on new Ocean Grove shopping centre

- TESSA HAYWARD

CONSTRUCTION is about to start on Ocean Grove’s third shopping centre.

The project comes as Kingston and Oakdene estates are increasing the town’s population.

Lascorp Development Group, development manager Rob Harris said the Grubb Rd centre had been years in the making and he was excited it had nearly reached the construction stage.

“Preliminary construction works are expected to commence in October and we have been advised by Kingston Ocean Grove that all roads and infrastructure will be completed by February, 2019,” Mr Harris said.

He said the other supermarkets in town were trading very well.

“When we developed the original centre (Ocean Grove Markeplace) everybody said there was minimal demand for it, well there certainly is now,” he said.

The major tenants include Woolworths, Aldi, Dan Murphy’s, Jetts 24hr fitness, Direct Chemist Outlet, a medical centre, McDonalds and Caltex fuel outlet.

There will also be 25 specialty stores and office spaces, some still for lease.

Mr Harris said Aldi would be a big drawcard and the fact that the centre had everything in one area.

The $60 million project includes an large outdoor plaza with family entertainment, outdoor seating and a large screen, Mr Harris said.

The development will provide 150 jobs during construction 400 full-time positions available once it was open for business.

The centre is expected to open in November, 2019. An artists concept drawing of Kingston Village, which will be built on Grubb Rd.
