SURKITT IN LIMBO

Hopeful playmaker waits on scans

- WITH ALEX OATES

GEELONG Amateur star Brad Surkitt concedes his season is in limbo as he awaits scans on his injured shoulder.

Surkitt yesterday confirmed he was unlikely to line-up in Saturday’s second semi-final against Modewarre and was no certainty to return for Ammos this season.

The star playmaker was set to have scans yesterday and will learn his fate later this week.

“I’m basically waiting for a scan, that’s where I’m at,” Surkitt said.

“If the boys keep winning, hopefully I can play some part, but I won’t know until I have the scan.”

He revealed he suffered the injury in Round 11, forcing him to miss matches against Newcomb and Torquay.

He returned in Round 14 against Drysdale and strung together five matches before copping another knock to the same shoulder against Modewarre in Round 18.

“Against Ocean Grove I had a ball kicked out in front of me, and as it bounced, I went to pick the ball up and someone came from the other way and bumped me and I didn’t get a chance to brace,” Surkitt said.

“And it was a similar situation against Modewarre.

“I’ve never had any issues with my shoulders, so it’s all new to me.”

Surkitt said it was unclear what was causing the pain, but he was confident he had escaped serious damage.

“We don’t know exactly what’s going on, that’s what we’re trying to figure out,” he said.

“I’ll more than likely won’t put my hand up to play this week, but if the boys keep winning, I’ll play it week by week.

“Fingers crossed I’ll get back, but we’re just not sure.

“Nine weeks is a long time to carry something, so there’s something going on there.”
