Pako market revived
THE PAKO Farmers’ Market will relaunch on Saturday following a winter hiatus.
The market, which received $30,000 in government funding last year, closed just eight months after opening following reports of lower than expected foot traffic.
But new market manager Suzette Jackson said a reevaluation of the market had led to some changes that organisers hoped would ensure the success of the local event.
The Barwon Fair Food Network-operated market will now operate just once a month, instead of the original once a fortnight, and will start an hour later than previously.
Stallholders will provide regionally-produced food including fruit and vegetables, lamb, beef, pork, eggs, dairy, bread, pastries and much more.
Ms Jackson said the community farmers’ marker continued to be a not-for-profit event operated by volunteers.
“Pako Farmers’ Market encourages farming practices that support food nutrition and land health,’ Ms Jackson said.
“The regional stallholders are the actual farmer, grower or maker of the food you’re buying, or a direct employee. The market is Victorian Farmers Markets Association members and do not use resellers.”
Following the initial closure of the market Minister for Agriculture and Regional Development Jaala Pulford said the Government would work with market organisers to reinvigorate it.
The first market is this Saturday and then every second Saturday from 9am-1pm.
