Lyons decries ‘disgusting’ act of van-dalism
RENEGADE ex- Geelong mayor Darryn Lyons has accused “thugs” of hammering screws into the tyres of the campaign bus he is using in his tilt at state politics.
Mr Lyons is taking on Labor MP Christine Couzens as an independent in the seat of Geelong at the November 24 state election.
The former mayor, sacked from the dysfunctional council by the Andrews Government amid bullying allegations, is now on the campaign trail.
He posted a video on Twitter on Saturday of his pink campaign bus with a flat tyre, which he said was caused by “thugs” hammering screws into it.
He said he was trying to “do the best for our city” and the “disgusting” act had stopped him from campaigning.
Mr Lyons said whoever was responsible was “an absolute disgrace to our society”.
Liberal Party candidate for Geelong, Freya Fidge, also stated that her corflute signs had been stolen off private property.
It is not the first time Mr Lyons has claimed he was vic- tim of illegal activity.
When mayor, Mr Lyons alleged in 2014 that he was the target of a petrol bomb attack on his Home House nightclub.
Police later said there was “no evidence” to substantiate that theory.
Mr Lyons also said he had been the victim of graffiti attacks and break-ins at his house.
