THE Surf Coast’s India Robinson has claimed her maiden WSL Qualifying Series win at the Phillip Island Pro, beating Sophia Fulton in perfect surf at Penguin Parade.

Robinson was in fine form all event, consistently scoring in the excellent range on the speedy righthand waves on offer.

“I’m so excited and overwhelmed,” Robinson said.

“I had an absolute dream heat finding the best waves and my boards felt great.”

After a strong start to the year with a quarter-final finish at the highly rated Florida Pro, Robinson set her sights for an event win and was able to do it in her home state in front of family and friends.

“It’s incredible to win so close to home and be staying with close friends on Phillip Island. The support I got was amazing,” she said.

Robinson amassed a total of 18.05 (out of a possible 20) in the opening half of the final.

Fulton, from Mollymook, NSW, finished the final on a total of 11.20.

Robinson has moved up two spots on the World Surf League QS rankings to No.24 going into the final event at Port Stephens, which begins tomorrow.

It has been a huge season for Robinson and with her ranking now in the low 20s, she is superbly positioned for her next season as she chases the dream of qualifying on the elite championship tour. Four-day surf forecast: There’s been an excellent run of swell this past week and it should continue into the weekend, with waves and winds expected to remain favourable right through to Sunday. A great run of spring surf.”
