Thinking about having a breast reduction?

1. You Look can at be your a fully options. private or full public patient, depending on your medical needs and finances.

2. Do your research if going private. My GP is a champion and she looked into my amazing plastic surgeon, Dr Natalie Ngan, for me. Five stars all the way. She is a specialist reconstructive surgeon so I knew she’d be great. A cosmetic surgeon is NOT a plastic surgeon. It can mean the difference between round and oval nipples.

3. If your breasts change size with weight loss then you need to be at some sort of ideal weight before surgery. I’m still 10kg overweight but the surgeon was happy because weight doesn’t affect my breasts size much.

4. Stop smoking at least six weeks out. This is essential for wound healing and recovery. You’re also more likely to die from an anaesthetic than a non-smoker. 5. Pay attention to the rules of recovery. You will need support. Don’t worry, you can still wipe your own backside but you won’t be able to reach a high cupboard. 6. Pain varies from patient to patient. Mine was quite minimal and I only took strong painkillers for four days. Sleeping on my back for the first three nights was hard and I found doing no exercise tough because my whole body tightened up, particularly my neck and upper back. 7. Stick to the rules about movement and exercise. You might not be in pain but it doesn’t mean you can do pushups. No running for three months. 8. Choose the size that’s right for you and be guided by your surgeon. Husbands and boyfriends should not get a say in this. Full stop. 9. Use all the scar prevention techniques. Zinc before surgery and Vitamin E cream and oral capsules and Bio-oil after surgery. I’ve also heard using the back of an electric toothbrush to massage the scars is great once the wounds have healed. 10. Your male friends will feel awkward and won’t know where to look. Your female friends will be thrilled to clap eyes on you and want to touch them, and see photos.
