Spreading Christmas magic a team effort
SANTA’S Geelong helpers have already started their good deeds for the festive season, looking to social enterprise to upskill the underemployed.
Central Geelong Marketing has engaged genU Business Enterprises to employ people with disabilities to pack 18,000 bags of lollies for Magic Meter Elves to hand out in the city from December 1-24.
Each will be adorned with stickers promoting the work of genU in the community.
The Magic Meter Elves have been spreading Christmas cheer for the past 14 years, handing out lollies, fruit vouchers and this year contributing $1 at random to commuters scrounging for coins at parking meters.
GenU Business Enterprises general manager Georgie Knight said the partnership would kickstart the careers of people with a disability.
“We commend Central Geelong on their decision to support a social enterprise and we’d like to thank them for supporting genU,” she said.
“Partnering with another Geelong-based organisation allows the benefits of the program to flow back through the local community.”
Clients from genU Business Enterprises will also prepare almost 1000 gingerbread biscuits for Morning Tea with Santa events, parts of the Central Geelong Christmas Trail initiative starting on December 1.
