Cash for upgrades suits Ocean Grove club to a tee

- OLIVIA REED

LABOR has pledged $38,000 for upgrades at the Ocean Grove Golf Club if the party wins today’s state election.

The funding will help the club repair and replace two bridges to ensure it can tee off to even greater heights.

Bellarine MP Lisa Neville said the funding would draw more avid golfers to the region.

“Only Labor will improve the Ocean Grove Golf Club to attract even more golfers to this fantastic course to enjoy the coastal breeze and make their way along the fairway,” Ms Neville said.

Club president Peter Cullen said the funding “would mean a great deal to the club”, which had “never had any money given to them”.

“I got a phone call from Lisa Neville’s office about the funding and it came as a very pleasant surprise,” Mr Cullen said.

He said repairing the bridges would be the priority, but some of the funding would be used to reinvigorate the club’s ageing clubrooms.

“The clubrooms are pretty old and they do need some refurbishment,” he said.

The Labor Party said golf in Victoria contributed $883 million to the economy and supported 6900 jobs.
