Ruck’s happy landing

Stanley sets sights on rural property after city

- MIKAELA DAY

CATS ruckman Rhys Stanley is looking to buy property in Geelong after putting his Melbourne pad on the market.

Stanley is renovating a property he owns in Geelong with fiancee Kirsten Clemens but is looking at buying a rural lifestyle property in the area.

“Property in Geelong has been going really well, flying along, so I have got to try and keep up with it,” he said.

“I am looking into rural property and hobby farms for the family to make it feel like what Kirsten and I grew up with, that would be the ultimate.”

Rural properties around Geelong are in demand with the lifestyle they offer a big attraction.

A 62ha property at 1950 Barrabool Rd, Gnarwarre, recently sold for $2.2 million, while lifestyle properties on the Bellarine Peninsula are selling upwards of $1 million.

The 27-year-old could look for advice from fellow Cats star Tom Hawkins as he bought a rural property a couple of years ago just outside Geelong.

Stanley and Clemens have had a busy year with their engagement, the birth of son Jagger in February, their Margaret River wedding next month and now cutting ties with the Melbourne pad.

“I thought I should sell Melbourne and start looking at what else I want to do, something on the coast and in Geelong,” Stanley said.

He is selling 7 Swindon Ave, Cheltenham, a three-bedroom house he bought after he was recruited to St Kilda and kept as an investment after he was traded to the Cats in 2015.
