Pre-Santa fixture a headache for clubs

- MATT FLAPPER COMMENT

AS WE get closer to the Christmas break, all our clubs will be in a position where they may need to chase up players to replace those who cannot play pennant on Saturday, December 22.

The final weekend before Christmas — only three days before the festive celebration — and we are forced, or should I say required, to be playing Saturday pennant.

Clubs will be forced to give walkovers because they have not enough players to field sides and they will possibly be fined for doing so.

Are there alternatives? Another weekend? Perhaps a scheduled double header?

Or would simply altering the starting time of the scheduled match on the day be enough to suffice your members?

It’s obviously too late to change the fixture now, but clubs have the option to tweak starting times on the day.

Would you have more members available if the match commenced at 10am instead of 1pm, finishing at 2pm instead of 5pm?

It may be enough to save your club being fined.

Just a thought.
