Trump taken to cleaners

-

TWO cleaners at one of US President Donald Trump’s golf resorts say they were in the US illegally when hired, supervisors knew it and that many employees there also lacked legal documents.

The New York Times reported yesterday that Victorina Morales and Sandra Diaz cleaned at Mr Trump’s New Jersey Bedminster resort for years, despite no proper documentation.

Ms Morales said she used false Social Security and permanent resident cards.

The women’s lawyer, Anibal Romero, claimed a supervisor also hurled racial epithets at the women and threatened them with deportation.

The story said there was no evidence the Trump Organisation knew the two did not have legal documents, but the women say at least two supervisors were aware of their sta- tus and helped them evade detection.

“If any employee submitted false documentation in an attempt to circumvent the law, they will be terminated immediately,” the Trump Organisation said.

Both women were described as finding Mr Trump demanding, but kind.

Ms Morales, who left Guatemala in 1999, said Mr Trump would sometimes give her a $50 or $100 tip. But she said she was hurt by his comments disparaging immigrants there illegally as violent criminals.

She said her supervisor called workers “stupid illegal immigrants”, but the same supervisor allegedly provided her with forged documents.

Ms Morales said she was applying for asylum and was exploring a lawsuit claiming workplace abuse and discrimination.
