GK rallies to score in the 10th
GEELONG-KOREA produced a stunning comeback to avoid a sweep in its four-game Australian Baseball League series against Perth yesterday.
GK scored six runs in the eighth as it reeled in an early 7-1 deficit before prevailing 13-10 in extra-innings at Thornlie.
Joo-Ho Lee, Jong-Hyuk Lim, Yong-Wook Lee, HakJun Noh and Hwi-Yeon Park drove in runs in the top of the 10th as Geelong-Korea built a five-run buffer.
Byeong-Geun Kim recorded three vital outs to help GK record its seventh win of the season and second against the playoff-bound Heat.
Geelong-Korea trailed 7-2 entering the eighth before piling on six runs to take the lead.
Hwi-Yeon Park and SungGu Han started the rally with back-to-back singles.
Dae-Gun Kook’s single, combined with an error, allowed Park to score before Seung-Hun Kim’s RBI-single prompting a pitching change.
Perth reliever Benn Grice hit Joo-Ho Lee with a pitch to load the bases and Jong-Hyuk Lim capitalised.
Lim’s two-run single pulled Geelong-Korea within a run.
Yong-Wook Lee put GK ahead 8-7 with a two-run single.
Perth pulled level in the bottom of the eighth to force extra innings.
GK finished with 16 hits to 11 as its bats overcame a sluggish start.
Sung-Gu Han and JongHyuk Lim led the way with three hits each.
Geelong-Korea was outclassed in game three of the series on Saturday night, falling 19-1. The visitors recorded only three hits while the Heat racked up 19.
Late runs were enough for Perth to topple Geelong-Korea 2-0 on Friday night.
The Heat did not break the deadlock until the seventh inning as it was stifled by GK starter Jin-Yong Jang.
Jang struck out five and allowed one run in 6 1/3 innings of work.
Geelong-Korea rounds out its maiden ABL season at home to playoff-bound Brisbane.
Game one is 6.30pm Thursday at Geelong Baseball Centre.
