If there’s any proof that we should spend more time discovering the small towns of Australia, BackRoads is it. The beauty of this unique series is that you won’t find the inspirational stories and compelling personalities in any guide book – host Heather Ewart (pictured) mostly relies on word of mouth to lead her to the small towns she profiles. Tonight, she travels to the historic Victorian borough of Beaufort, halfway between Ararat and Ballarat. An inviting mix of old and new, the town is brainstorming new ideas to keep their home on the map – their main street is about to be much less busy after a bypass is constructed.
