LOW CROWD WORRY

-

IS Geelong in danger of losing its slice of the Big Bash League? After last night’s paltry crowd of 16,008 at GMHBA Stadium, it’s not out of the question. The Melbourne Renegades were hoping for 25,000 in game one against Adelaide Strikers. They got 18,029. The ‘Gades lowered expectations for game two, praying for 20,000, and fell well short again. Granted, crowds are down across the BBL on the back of an expanded competition and fewer drawcard players, but Geelong missed a trick in not supporting Big Bash cricket in town. In order to get BBL cricket back next year, the public had to attend in big numbers. And they didn’t. Maybe Ballarat will get a taste of it in 2019-20? We hope not.
