Man hurt in bay jet ski crash

-

A MAN was rushed to hospital after he was injured in a jet ski crash near Portalington on Sunday.

The man in his 20s was treated by paramedics at the Point Richards Boat Ramp jetty about 4.20pm before being taken to Geelong hospital with ankle injuries.

The incident comes as local emergency workers say there had been a significant increase in jet ski use on the Bellarine.

It also follows strong warnings from water police for jet ski users to be safe and abide by the law.

Operation Jetwash — which run across Victorian bays from December 27 and January 30 — saw 120 infringements handed out to jetski users who were flouting the law.

Offenders were handed notices for speeding, operating in no boating zones and other safety-based offences.

Those breaking the law face fines up to $806.

Police also warned people caught hooning faced having their vessel restricted or seized.

Water police will continue to patrol the state’s waterways over the summer.
