DUMPERS ENDANGER HEALTH OF COMMUNITY
MY wife and I reside in Curlewis. There is a lot of new housing development in the area.
Illegal dumping happens throughout the year. However, the Christmas season has seen a larger proportion of illegal dumping in builders’ skips, sites, vacant blocks of land and on nature strips.
My wife was walking today and came across a 20-litre plastic container of hydrochloric acid along with other dumped items — car batteries and mattresses.
I’m wondering what kind of criminal would dump such a dangerous substance where there is established housing and children walking through the area.
My wife has contacted council and they assured her that they would be looking into the matter.
Having said that, council can only act on dumping left on nature strips and not vacant land. Chris Symmonds, Curlewis
