TWO groups of Sydney buyers put their summer holidays to good use, lining up to purchase a resort-style family home for nearly $1 million in Highton.

The couples, who remarkably both have twin girls and connections to Geelong, took time out from their summer break to do the sums on securing the five-bedroom house at 23 Esperence

Crescent, which sold last week for $920,000. McGrath, Geelong agent David McGuinness said the first couple, who were already in Geelong visiting family and friends with their six-month old girls, organised a couple of inspections to see the property, which has three internal living areas and a backyard pool.

But while they were busy trying to organise finance and tie up other details before setting up a sale, the second Sydney buyers moved in.

Mr McGuinness said he warned the husband that another group was keen on the property, but to send his wife to check out the home, which last sold in 2012 for $730,000.

“It doesn’t matter what happens — if she’s not happy you’re going to be in all sorts of trouble,” he said. “I’ve seen it twice now when blokes have bought houses and their wife has got halfway up the driveway and burst into tears and said I can’t live here.”

Mr McGuinness said she flew down from Sydney the next day and had an offer on the table that afternoon.

“They’re from Geelong originally and decided to move back down.

“It’s a lovely home with a pool and some nice views from upstairs and close to Barrabool Hills Plaza and in a really nice spot.”
