AND ANOTHER THING...

-

THE ‘Take the P-ss Geelong’ Facebook page recently ran a picture of a man standing beside a car with his hand on his chest, eyes closed and apparently breathing a sigh of relief.

The caption? “Phew! When you thought you ran over an animal but it was just a cyclist!”

The post drew 899 likes, 380 shares and 524 comments, some of which included: “Hahaha!” “Start the new year off right!” “Gold!” “Happy New Year.” “Animals are less of a nuisance on the road.” “Just a slightly bigger bump that’s all.” “Best feeling out. Running them over.”

With a friend knocked from his bike by an inattentive driver 14 months ago and now a quadriplegic, I found the whole post completely offensive. The pain and ongoing suffering experienced not only by him but his wife and loved ones is immeasurable and your comments only went to show how many thoughtless morons there are in the world.

But there was one good thing to come out of this: you all have your names on your comments, so anyone getting on the page will be able to see exactly who you are.

Cyclists all too often are seriously injured or killed on our roads by careless and inattentive drivers.

To those Facebook commentators, I could go on about the heartbreaking situation many of these victims find themselves in but I won’t.

There wouldn’t be half a brain between the lot of you capable of taking it in.
