Wife says PM sensitive and ‘tenacious’

-

PRIME Minister Scott Morrison is more sensitive than people realise, but there are times you need “someone tenacious” to get things done, his wife says.

Jenny Morrison has given her first solo interview since her husband was elevated to Prime Minister in a Liberal leadership coup in August.

A former immigration minister, Mr Morrison revealed last year he was on his knees in tears over the difficult border protection decision to turn back asylum seeker boats.

That expression of emotion was true, Ms Morrison said when asked by Nine Honey in her interview released yesterday.

“Scott is very, very … he’s sensitive about issues,” Ms Morrison said.

“I don’t know whether people … I think they have one view of him but he never took any of those decisions lightly and it might seem like he’s gung-ho but you need someone tenacious sometimes to hold the line.”

Ms Morrison said while she always knew her husband of nearly 30 years had leadership potential, she was surprised by the sudden changes in August.

“I did not see it coming,” she said.

The group raised $21,250 for young people undertaking rehabilitation treatment in the region.

Strong Geelong owner Tyson Morrissy said the opportunity to be involved in the appeal was too good to miss.

“The Rising Bar Silver Dollar challenge was an opportunity to give back to the Geelong community … to help kids, to help parents and to help those around us,” he said.

To date, the appeal has raised $1.3 million of the $3 million needed to build a state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre in Geelong.

The new centre will include two rehab gyms, a therapy kitchen and private consulting rooms, as well as an outdoor therapy playground.
