Book in for hard waste pickup

-

GEELONG ratepayers will soon be able to book a hard waste collection from their homes.

The City of Greater Geelong’s hard waste booking trial will allow households to make one booking each financial year to have no more than three cubic metres of hard waste collected.

Bookings will open from March 1 and collections will begin in April, with the trial running until June 2020.

Mayor Bruce Harwood said the service, to be funded by the residential waste collection charge, was launched following suggestions by ratepayers.

“We’re pleased to see this initiative starting, given it was brought to the table by many councillors in response to feedback from local community members,” Cr Harwood said.

“It will be successful if we all follow the guidelines, so we’re keen for everyone to read up about the service and understand how it will work.”

Items that will be accepted include couches and other furniture, white goods, computers, carpets and rugs, and small amounts of timber, scrap metal, roofing and guttering.

Items that will not be accepted include mattresses, building materials, liquids, chemicals, asbestos, garden waste, bags of rubbish and car tyres.

Bookings can be made through geelongaustralia.com.au/hardwaste or by phoning 5272 5444 from 9am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
