YOUR SAY

- On Facebook we asked our readers who regularly commute from Geelong, Surf Coast and the Bellarine to Melbourne for work what they thought was the best method of travel out of train, car and ferry. Denise Simons Ben Jensen Josh Delkovski Campbell Ellis Dyl

“I love travelling by train but the frequent cancellations and not having enough seats is not good enough. If I pay full fare I deserve to sit down for a one hour-plus journey. Fix the system please then more will use it.” “Train. Despite the overcrowding and unreliability, it’s a much better alternative than driving. I can sit in relative comfort most of the time and have time to myself to read, sleep, listen to podcasts, watch video or do work if desperate.” “I take the train because I don’t really have much choice. The trains are outdated and old, seating is always crap since there’s so many commuters, but the trains really do suck.” “Car. If you’re leaving before 5.30 in the morning and four in the arvo going back. Apart from that, it’s the train, which is the lesser of two evils, though the sardine can gets old.” “Car, but I’d use the train if the Metro came all the way out to Waurn Ponds, or if V/Line put on some peak services using the old line through Werribee.” “I commuted for 12 years by train, by RRL and the Werribee line. Why they made the choice for one instead of both I will never understand. Alternate peak services via Werribee would be a great start.” “Car. As the trains and buses don’t connect with each other or run on time.” “I’m on the Bellarine. Drive to Geelong then train. The Bellarine bus service is too slow and infrequent. We need express services and more frequent departures in peak periods. The train is not too bad. I get on at North Geelong (the drive/train combination is faster through NG than SG, Geel or Marshall).” “Train: easy and save a fortune in petrol costs.”
