Oliver in complete control

-

A RICHIE Oliver masterclass continued the Geelong Cricket Association’s flying start to its Melbourne Country Week campaign.

Oliver smashed 151 off 131 balls in yesterday’s impressive 187-run win over West Gippsland Cricket Association at Camberwell Sports Ground.

The Geelong City opener’s knock included 19 fours and four sixes, as the GCA piled on 7-345 off 50 overs, a day after chasing down 357 against Warrnambool.

Oliver completely dominated the Geelong innings until he was dismissed with the score on 309. All GCA batsmen made starts, but Oliver was the only one to pass 50, such was his dominance.

In reply, West Gippsland’s chances of victory were dashed when it slipped from 2-98 to 5-105, before limping to 158 all out in the 42nd over.

Nick McGuane (2-23), Nick Lynch (2-24), Layton McCann (2-15) and Andy Hughes (2-16) grabbed two wickets each for the GCA in an even team bowling performance.

The in-form Geelong team takes on Bairnsdale today at Melbourne University.
