Maher loves Gaby draw

- LEO SCHLINK

CIARON Maher is undaunted by Loving Gaby’s wide barrier draw in Saturday’s $1.5million Blue Diamond Stakes, predicting the reigning favourite will give her rivals “some curry” if the race pans out suitably.

Maher’s view of the barrier draw is shared by the TAB, which was unmoved after $4.50 favourite Loving Gaby drew gate 12 of 14.

“I was happy enough there (barrier 12),” Maher said. “I was hoping for around 10.

“She should break better than what she did the other day. She’s in good order, she’s ready to go.

“She wouldn’t be as sharp as some of the others into gear but if she’s within striking distance of them on the turn, I’d say she’d give them some curry.”

In a draw which favoured the outsiders, James Cummings’ $6 second favourite Athiri has barrier 13. Tony McEvoy’s Game Keeper drew the coveted inside alley.
