Faretti sparks memories

- RAY THOMAS

GAI Waterhouse talks with the same enthusiasm about Faretti that she did with Pierro and Vancouver.

“Faretti is the dominant (two-year-old) colt in our stable,’’ Waterhouse said.

The unraced Faretti makes his debut against boom juveniles Tassort and McLaren in the Group 2, $250,000 Silver Slipper Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday.

Faretti, a superbly bred two-year-old by champion sire I Am Invincible, cost $2 million as a yearling at the Magic Millions Sales last year and Waterhouse maintains the colt is worth every cent.

“He is such an exciting two-year-old, he’s a top-line colt and it will take a very good horse to beat him on Saturday,’’ the Hall of Fame trainer said.

Tassort dominates early Silver Slipper betting at $1.60 with TAB Fixed Odds. McLaren is next at $5 while Faretti is on the fourth line of betting at $9.
