How to get our city active

-

SLIGHTLY more than half of all Geelong adults do not participate in at least 30 to 60 minutes of physical activity at least five days a week, but Active Geelong is on a mission to change that.

Working with local government, businesses, organisations and institutions from across Geelong and being led by GMHBA, Active Geelong is working with the community to identify and overcome barriers to participation in physical activity.

Partners and supporters of Active Geelong were recently recognised at an event at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club. PARKING in central Geelong is in the news again with city councillors last week split over a surprise move to trial 30 minutes of free parking in two-hour parking zones.

One of the councillors who pushed for the free parking was also recently bemoaning the traffic snarls in the CBD, particularly through the redeveloped Malop St.

But if you make carparking easier, or cheaper, won’t it bring in more cars?

That would appear the view of Revitalising Central Geelong, which is jointly funded by the council and the State Government.
