Thompson out in Texas

JORDAN Thompson’s hopes of a maiden ATP title have been ended in the quarterfinals of the US Men’s Clay Court Championship in Texas.

Australian seventh seed Thompson was beaten 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 yesterday in a raindelayed showdown with Colombian qualifier Daniel Elahi Galan. Their match began on Saturday and was suspended in the third set. Galan backed up later against Norwegian Casper Ruud, but his unexpected run came to a crashing halt, losing 7-5, 6-2 .

Ruud now meets Chilean Christian Garin in the final after Garin beat eighth-seed Sam Querrey 7-6 (7-2), 6-2.
