Winx could breed overseas

- LEO SCHLINK

THE next chapter in the Winx fairytale will be decided within weeks — the start of her breeding career.

Relieved and overwhelmed Winx had bowed out in fitting style with Queen Elizabeth Stakes victory at Randwick on Saturday, the champion’s ownership group will soon decide where the mare first goes to stud.

While the Hunter Valley is a logical option, Winx could embark on a journey she didn’t experience during her racing career by heading overseas, with speculation England’s Frankel and Japan’s Deep Impact could be considered.

Irish superstar Galileo is another stallion Winx’s owners might include on their short list.

As with Makybe Diva and Black Caviar, there will be immense curiosity over Winx’s future as a broodmare.

The world’s best racehorse bowed out with 37 wins from 43 starts and a world record 25 Group 1s, ensuring she is welcome at any stud in the world.

If she is to head abroad during her breeding career, it is more likely to be sooner than later.

Winx will remain at Waller’s stables to let down before spelling.

She will then be sent to stud in the spring.
