Good form close: Galaxy coach

- RYAN REYNOLDS

GALAXY United coach Gabriel Markaj is confident a run of good form is just around the corner following another honourable loss on Saturday night.

United showed plenty of fight against title contender Calder United, but went down 1-0 thanks to a goal early in the first half by Catherine Zimmerman.

It was another impressive performance by Markaj’s team, but again they were not rewarded with any points.

“Again our performance was very good. It was a tight contest, but we couldn’t get any points,” Markaj said. “It is frustrating for the girls because they don’t get the rewards.

“I’m sure we are going to go on a roll. We are going to go into a couple of games and we will have three, four wins in a row and everything is going to be fine.

“The important part for the first part of the season was to perform, which we have done quite nicely. Everyone has expected us to get smashed every week, we had people say we’d lose 5-0, 6-0 easily and that didn’t happen.”

Zimmerman managed to weave her way through Galaxy’s defensive line in the 13th minute, slotting past keeper Emily Kenshole.

Markaj said his side was left to rue a brief lapse in concentration, allowing Zimmerman to find herself in space.

“We are going to work on it (our concentration),” Markaj said.

Markaj was full of praise for striker and leading goal scorer Lulu Al-Huneidi for her defensive work, while imports Kana Oda and Tomoko Fukumaru were also important.

“It was a collective performance, but Lulu defensively was very, very good,” he said.
