Locals surf for Rip Curl Pro wildcards

JAN Juc champion Jack Perry and Torquay’s Cahill BellWarren are both live chances to earn a wildcard entry into Wednesday’s Rip Curl Pro at Bells Beach after day one of the Victorian trials.

Perry and Bell-Warren have both progressed through to Round 3 of the trials, which continue this morning, while Cape Patterson’s Luke Archibald and Torquay’s Harry Mann also stood out at Winkipop yesterday morning.

Meanwhile, Zoe Clark and Jazz Wylie from Jan Juc remain on the women’s side of the draw as local hopes aspiring to gain a ticket into the Rip Curl Pro main event.

The top seeds of the men’s and women’s competitio­ns will join the trials today.

Meanwhile, Jan Juc’s Ethan Huxtable was crowned the Victorian Junior Challenge winner at Winkipop yesterday, amassing a heat total of 12.10 (out of a possible 20) to beat fellow Jan Juc surfer Indi White (11.63).

Finishing in third and fourth was Codie Jeffery (Phillip Island) and Bohdie Williams (Ocean Grove).

Phillip Island’s Sage Goldsbury claimed the girls’ Victorian Junior Challenge title, defeating Bella Wilson (Jan Juc), Lucy Naylor (Point Lonsdale) and Angelique Kefalas (Jan Juc).

The Rip Curl Pro Victorian trials continue today with top seeds hitting the water from 7:30am at Winkipop.

The Rip Curl Pro waiting period begins Wednesday 17th April and concludes Saturday 27th April at Bells Beach.
