COAL DEBATE DESERVING OF A DOSE OF REALITY

-

MANY people loathe coal and so don’t want us to use it even for baseload power generation.

At the same time they want our fantastic standard of living, for example, enjoying health care that is the envy of almost every other country, and have a richer middle class than anywhere else in the world except Switzerland (please note this Mr Shorten).

If we can’t export coal and steel, we would not be enjoying the education, good housing and health care that we have.

I would rather see some coal used in electricity generation so that we can keep the price down and give industry a chance to be competitive. Alternatively, watch more people put out of work due to industries going offshore.

I am also happy to see us export coal as our thermal coal is cleaner than almost any other produced.

We are doing the world a service keeping lights on in countries like India, especially, and industry going. We are happy to see more and more people lifted out of poverty.

A dose of reality needs to come into the thinking of many or us who have high ideals but no thought of the consequences. Caroline
