Our young athletes head to Canada to take on world

DELAINEY Hill and her two good friends, twins Jack and Sam Warelow, have the world at their feet.

The talented teenage trio are all members of the Corio Little Athletics Club and have notched up some incredible achievements in their chosen disciplines despite their tender ages.

Their successes are now set to send the 14-year-old athletes to the other side of the world.

Delainey (or Lainey as she is better known), Jack and Sam have all been invited by Sports Travel Australia to compete in a series of athletics events in Canada.

The trio received an invitation based on their times and results achieved via schoolbased athletic competitions as well as their sporting achievements at the Corio Little Athletics club.

Corio Little Athletics president Simon Hill said the athletes selected have excelled at sporting events during the 2018 school year and now have the challenge of competing against athletes from other countries of a similar standard.

“As well as competing individually, they will learn to be part of a team as they support other athletes who have been selected from around Australia,” Hill said.

While in Canada, the three Geelong youngsters will train and compete, as well as sightsee, which will help them develop their independence and develop friendships with fellow athletes.

According to Hill, it will also fan the flames for those athletes that dream of competing for Australia, as well show them the work that is required to compete at the highest levels of sport.

“It is a huge achievement for these athletes to have been selected to compete in Canada and to know that Corio Little Athletics have played a part in their sporting development makes us proud as a club,” Hill said.

“It also goes to show our current athletes that hard work and dedication can reap rewards.”

The twins’ father, Philip, was glowing in his praise for what the Corio Little Athletics Club had provided for his boys.

“Little Athletics has provided a vehicle for not only great sporting achievements and friendships for Jack and Sam, but also a structure which has been significant in building their self-esteem, resilience and character building across their journey,” he said.

The trip to Canada will cost each athlete $10,000 and is paid for by families as well as a series of fundraising efforts the club is organising on their behalf.

One of those is a crowdfunding campaign launched through the MyCause web page, which was set up by the Warelow family.

Having set a target of $6000, the tally now stands at $700. TO DONATE, FOLLOW THE LINK: MYCAUSE. COM. AU/ PAGE/ 197383/ JACK- SAM- WARELOW- AND- DELAINEY-HILL
