MISS WORLD STAGE BECKONS
A LARA marketing manager is vying to be Australia’s next Miss World contestant.
Amber Sidney, 23, was crowned a state finalist in the annual Miss World competition at an event in Melbourne on Sunday.
Ms Sidney was one of five Victorians selected to proceed to the national finals to be held in Queensland next month.
The entrants were judged on a range of factors and skillsets, including personality, stage presence, appearance, intelligence, posture and responses to questions.
Ms Sidney said she was looking forward to representing Geelong on the world stage as a Victorian finalist at the national event.
“I’m really happy all of my hard work has paid off and I’m so excited for July,” she said.
“This is my first time entering Miss World and it’s something I have always wanted to enter . . . they really emphasise charity work.”
Ms Sidney said she was passionate about helping others and had volunteered in the Philippines as a Miss World ambassador in February.
“I volunteered with the underprivileged children there,” she said.
“It was very eyeopening — you have to face poverty to understand it and that’s really motivated me and inspired me.”
The winner of the national competition will be crowned Miss World Australia and will go on to represent the nation against other countries in Thailand later this year.
