Danger one of toughest: Scott

- RYAN REYNOLDS

GEELONG coach Chris Scott is hopeful Patrick Dangerfield will be fit to face the Western Bulldogs after suffering a hip injury in last night’s win over Adelaide.

The explosive midfielder came off second best in a heavy clash in a marking contest with former teammate Daniel Talia, finishing the game playing mostly as a deep forward.

Scott said the extra day’s break might help Dangerfield recover in time to play the Western Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium next Saturday night.

“He got a really hard knock . . . I’m not sure many players could keep going. He seemed to get a little bit better as he went on,” he said after Geelong’s 27-point win over the Crows last night.

“It looked at halftime as if he wouldn’t be able to play. He is one of the more tough players that I’ve seen . . . and I’ve seen a few.

“We just don’t take risks with these guys.

“I must say, the way he was moving, there was no real interest from us having him around the ball.

“He could play on, albeit as a forward, (so) that’s a good sign.”

Scott said Dangerfield’s ability to bounce back from injury might also help his case to play the Dogs.

“I’ve seen him hobble in with significant injuries and find a way to get up,” he said.

The Cats had trailed by almost four goals in the second quarter at GMHBA Stadium, but they were able to surge back into the contest after swinging defender Mark Blicavs into the ruck.

Blicavs’s impact helped Geelong gain control in the middle of the ground, kicking four goals in a row to head into halftime in front by a point.

Scott admitted the Cats did plan to use Blicavs in the ruck at some stage last night, but not as much as it ended up being.

“We did go in with a bit of plan to use him at times,” he said.

“I thought the game was really going against us and he was able to turn that as much as anyone.

“Now it’s a difficult . . . we are going to have some long discussions around what the best way forward is for us given he played so well in there.”
