I ACED A PAR 4 ... AGAIN!
IT WAS PRETTY EXCITING ... THEY RECKON IT BASICALLY JUST WENT UP AND FELL IN LIKE SOMEONE HAD PUTTED ON THE GREEN. SIMON TRICKEY ON HIS SUPER ACE
YOU can forgive Barwon Valley golf star Simon Trickey for flexing his muscles around the clubhouse this week.
After all, it’s not often amateur golfers manage to snare a hole-in-one on a par four.
Trickey drilled his driver on the 290m 14th at Barwon Valley on Saturday with the ball landing short of the green before trickling up and nestling into the hole.
The pennant star didn’t see the ball drop, however the reaction from the group in front of him said it all.
“I hit a driver and there were some mates ahead that were putting out. Next minute they all jumped up and were going a bit silly and I thought one of them might have holed a good putt,”
“We walked up and they didn’t move and I started pointing as if to say ‘is it in the hole?’ and I got the confirmation then. So it was pretty exciting.
“Apparently they were putting out, so the flag wasn’t in. It landed just short of the green and ran up the hill.
“One of the guys was putting and was quickly told to move because one of the guys saw the ball coming up the hill and he got out of the road. They reckon it basically just went up and fell in like someone had putted on the green.
“They reckon it would have only been a foot or two past the hole had it not gone in.”
He added he thought his ball would be near the green when he played the shot.
“I was confident I could be in the vicinity (of the green) if I hit it well. When I hit it I thought: ‘yeah that’s around the mark’,” he said.
Trickey’s name will go up on the honourboard at Barwon Valley for having a hole-inone, but his achievement wasn’t enough to snare the eagle’s nest.
“I think the captain is trying to organise me something, but I’m not sure what it is yet,” Trickey said.
Amazingly it’s not the first time Trickey has achieved the feat, collecting an ace on the 214m par-four 13th at Portarlington. That time a superbly placed three-wood got the job done. Trickey said his focus would now switch to the upcoming open tournaments in the region, starting with Inverleigh next month.
