A plan to prepare the Armstrong Creek growth area for almost 2000 more homes and 4300 more residents went before Geelong councillors this week.

Enough already. How about more roads to deal with all this. It’s out of control, no more housing until infrastructure in place.

Moira Henriksen

And is the infrastructure in place for all these houses? I think not.

Jan Brasher

Keep packing them in, you can jump from roof to roof, how beautiful is that.

William Cartledge

Keep building on the flood plain.

Les Atkins

God help us if there’s a fire. There are houses touching each other. Our street wouldn’t even fit a fire truck with cars parked both sides of the tiny street.

Jacqi Grays Don’t wreck the area, like the developers have done to Werribee. And no infrastructure — it’s a mess.

Jen Parkes

It was always the plan. The growth corridor will connect Geelong and Torquay. It was only a matter of time!

Glenys Bibby

This is expanding the urban area near Marshall station. It is a logical area to expand into to accommodate Geelong’s growth. All of this area will be in walking distance of the station and if the plans for it to be transit-oriented design then there’s the basis for planning a more sustainable urban form. The draft plan is not perfect, but it’s a step in the right direction.

Mat Hines

Can’t see anything improving especially out that way. Small blocks, huge mortgages continue.

Jenny Egger

It’s called progress. More like destruction!

Jill Low Deeply concerning . . . infrastructure? . . . employment?

Kristin Cook

All these people whingeing, have a cry. It’s called expansion, the same as the other four estates built in the area, get over it.

Ray Emond

Where’s the jobs for all these people? The unemployment in Geelong is already high.

Will Harris

Does this come with duplication of Barwon Heads road and rail?

Elle Snow

Good bye, Mt Duneed, I enjoyed growing up fishing in your creeks and exploring your open fields.

Darren Clark

Where is the water coming from?

Kay Rowse

What about shops, local transport? You can’t even get to Waurn Ponds by bus (single route). You are isolated out there.

Marree Clark And the new ghetto keeps getting larger.

COUNCIL SHOULD EXPLORE HERBICIDE ALTERNATIVES

TUESDAY’S headline about toxic herbicides reminded me I sent a letter some months ago to Geelong council saying that herbicides have been shown to have risks including death from acute toxicity, possibly carcinogenic including some causing breast cancer, a risk of Parkinson’s disease.

There have been observed ecological effects, such as a decline in the population of seed-eating birds in Britain and a decline in frog populations. Some European countries have partially banned their use.

The response ultimately was that there was no alternative.

Obviously other countries have found alternatives.
