Alleged burglar to face court

A 20-YEAR-OLD male is expected to face court today after he allegedly led police on a four-hour car chase following an aggravated burglary in Torquay.

The male from Ballarat allegedly fled from the Torquay home in Park Lane home about 10.30pm on Friday in the homeowner’s car with a 13-year-old male and a 16year-old male.

The Geelong Advertiser understand­s the police helicopter was used to track the car to Grovedale where the group were arrested after 2.30am on Saturday.

The 20-year-old has been charged with aggravated burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, evading police and other traffic offences.

He is being held in custody to face the Geelong Magistrate today.

Police said the 16-year-old boy from Sebastopol is assisting with their inquires.

The 13-year-old boy was hospitalis­ed after he was arrested by the dog squad.

Police spokeswoma­n Alex Day said the males allegedly dumped the stolen car in Bailey St, Grovedale, early on Saturday morning before running from the scene.

“Police units were quickly on scene and searched the immediate area arresting the trio,” Ms Day said.

Geelong resident Simone said police swarmed Pioneer Rd and Surf Coast Highway around 3:30am.

“Police everywhere, one (unit) on Pioneer Road, three on Torquay highway between Pioneer Rd and Marshall(town) Rd, one on Marshall(town) Rd, and one on Barwarre Rd at 3.30am,” the woman posted to social media.

“All have their lights going too. I was quite scared driving to where I needed to be due to so many police out,”
