react to losing traditional compliance work. But uniting services under one roof was always the goal for Mr Hrkac as he picked up on a US trend.

“Twenty-five years ago I had this vision to create a business centre and have a one-stop shop,” Mr Hrkac said.

He said he started advising his clients on their businesses as part of his accounting service and because “it was just my nature” to help people succeed. “It wasn’t just facts and figures,” Mr Hrkac said. “And word got around that I wasn’t your traditional accountant.”

The Group now comprises four departments: accounting, legal and conveyancing, financial planning and finance. Mr Hrkac said the evolution of the Group had been a slow progression, with finding the right partners a key challenge while also focusing on his own accounting business. Alongside the long-term relationships he has developed with clients, he is proud of creating a work environment that he said had led to a high retention rate.

Mr Hrkac said he had also given young people a start in developing a career based on identifying key values of personality, loyalty, hard work and dedication as “the rest can come”. They are values that resonate with his personal journey having been “blessed through hard work, luck and loyalty and referrals”.

“I like to think I have changed a lot of people’s live as well, by giving them advice, both financially and personally,” he said.

The Hrkac Group will open its new Melbourne Rd office in January.
