THE WSL Hydralyte Pro Junior series event at Bells Beach next week is a serious event for many surfers who will come to compete including local standout Xavier Huxtable.

It’s the final event of the prestigious annual pro junior series and the last chance for Australian surfers to qualify for the World Junior finals, which are run in Taiwan every November.

Only three surfers from Australia qualify for these World Junior finals. Huxtable, 16, from Jan Juc, is right in with a chance if he puts in a good performance at Bells.

It sets the scene for an exciting finish to the season as there’s also about five interstate surfers battling it out with Huxtable to qualify.

The reason they desperately want to get to Taiwan for the world titles isn’t just about winning a world junior title — a top finish in Taiwan comes with valuable seeding rights into next year’s high level Qualifying Series events around the world and offers a fast track to becoming an elite Championship Tour surfer.

It’s also an excellent event for emerging surfers from all over Victoria to test their skills against Australia’s best.

It’s a great time of the year for waves on the Surf Coast so hopefully there will be plenty for all the talented competitors on September 24-25.

Four-day surf forecast:

Back to clean spring winds and good waves over the coming four days. Expect a kick in swell today for the reefs and moderate clean and fun waves throughout the weekend.
