It’s not a bakery, it’s a barkery

LOOK no further if you want to paw your pooch a puppaccino — a dog “barkery” has just howled into town.

Boasting a sweet selection of mouth-watering treats, Grovedale dog bakery Pure Paws Bakery is set to make the region’s pups drool when it opens next month.

The bakery has everything from doggie chocolate, choc “pupcorn” to cupcakes, doughnuts, biscuits — even birthday cakes to celebrate your furry friend’s special milestones.

Business owner Nedda Missa said the treats would be baked fresh on site, using only the best natural and organic ingredients.

“Everything is natural and will be handmade at the bakery,” Ms Missa said.

Pets of Geelong are known to be spoiled “fur” choice, with many of the region’s fur babies being treated like royalty as part of a national petpampering boom.

The Addy previously reported some pets were being housed in resort-style boarding hotels — one Little River pet resort even had a swimming pool.

Ms Missa, a qualified vet nurse with 10 years’ experience working in the pet industry, started the business 2.5 years ago to provide a natural and healthy alternative to the often “harmful” pet food that floods supermarkets.

“Some of the ingredients in supermarket pet food are just terrible,” she said.

“I realised there were so many people who just don’t know what to feed their pets . . . it comes down to a lack of education. I thought I needed to start making a change.”

Pet owners are welcome to sit inside with their furry companion while they chow down on a tasty treat.

The bakery is also set to cater for owners on weekends, turning into a dog-friendly cafe that serves human beverages and cakes.

The business, at 156 Marshalltown Rd, will open its doors next month, with a special grand opening set for October 26.
