Seagulls, Power get top points
NEWCOMB and North Shore will be given the biggest boost of all clubs next year after AFL Barwon released its netball player points totals.
The two clubs finished at the bottom of the BFNL and GFNL ladders respectively this year and will be granted 30 points in 2020.
In A-grade competition, the Seagulls have not won a game in the past three years, while the Power have won three games in their past six seasons.
In the GFNL, Grovedale will receive 26 points while in the BFNL Anglesea and Drysdale will also be given 26.
All other clubs in both leagues will operate off 24 points, including premier Newtown & Chilwell and Torquay.
AFL Barwon netball operations manager Sean Atkinson said the base level of points was reduced by two in the allocation in line with a strategy to lower the total in coming years.
“There’s been a reduction from the base points from all clubs, we gave extra initially,” he said.
“At this point it will be assessed every year.”
In netball, players are given a points allocation between one and six depending on their experience and history with a club.
Clubs have until September 30 to appeal their allocation.
