Little aths invited to try out new world-class track

-

CORIO Little Athletics Centre will open the new athletics season with its traditional family come-and-try day this Friday on its new track at Goldsworthy Reserve.

From 10am-noon, the centre is taking advantage of the AFL Grand Final public holiday and is urging all interested families to attend.

CLAC president Simon Hill said the morning was a perfect opportunity for families looking to get their children active over the summer.

“Children can have a try at a few different activities. We will have running, long jump, discus, just to name a few,” he said. “It is a great chance for parents to find out more about the centre and clubs as each individual club will have representatives to assist families.”

Hill suggested kids playing winter sport would benefit from staying active and improving their athletic abilities in the off-season.

“One local athlete, who springs to mind, is champion Geelong runner Christian Davies who first started off playing soccer and has then gone on to do really well in his athletics career,” said Hill.

Secretary Kirsten Thomas said: “We give the kids a chance to have a go at trying certain disciplines. There will be an opportunity to try sprinting on our brand new world-class track, long jumps, triple jumps, shot put, discus and high jump.

“Our four coaches will also be available for information and assistance, while all five clubs that operate as part of our centre will have the information stalls and there will be an opportunity to sign up and register, buy club shirts etc.”
