The Gordon’s new hub

TAFE’s $10m upgrade opened

- ANDREW JEFFERSON

STUDENTS at The Gordon now have access to state-ofthe-art TAFE facilities.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Training and Skills and Minister for Higher Education Gayle Tierney visited The Gordon yesterday to officially open its new $10 million student hub and library.

The building is complete with a new auditorium, student service centre, library and courtyard, and computer lab that can be used afterhours.

The upgrade is part of the City Campus Rejuvenation Project.

The State Government provided $5 million for the project from the TAFE Rescue Fund, matching The Gordon’s $5 million funding.

Mr Andrews said the building opening marked a proud occasion with TAFE supplying workers across the state in vital nation building jobs.

“Whether it’s level crossing removals, upgrading train lines in the city or the regions, building new hospitals and schools, that work is being done by TAFE qualified Victorians,” he said.

“We say thank you to them and we say we’re proud of those people.

“That’s where the jobs are and it’s where the future of a strong Victorian economy is.

“This is where the best training and education is going on, it’s where the most job ready training is going on, and we hope parents are pushing their kids to go to a stronger, rejuvenated TAFE system.”

The Gordon acting CEO Joe Ormeno said the upgrade was a fantastic reinvention of a pivotal space.

“To realise a major upgrade to facilities aimed at meeting the future learning and training needs of our student body has been a positive journey and outcome,” he said.

“Students and staff alike are delighted with the new built environment and its usability, and everyone has been impressed by how great it looks.”
