‘G, what a day we had

Prime seats at MCG as Sri Lanka took on Australia

OUR school has begun a fantastic relationship with the Geelong Lord Taverners.

These are people who are mad about cricket and what they found out during a visit to our school is that we have some students who also share their love of cricket.

They have donated a bowling machine to us which comes next year and we can’t wait.

It is really good to have relationships with other groups and our school really benefits.

The Taverners also helped organise a fantastic night in Melbourne to see Australia play Sri Lanka in T20 at the MCG.

On Friday, November 1, at the end of the school day, 10 of us changed into our formal school uniform because we were to be guests of the Melbourne Cricket Club.

Abinath and I (Dishanth) are Sri Lankan and this was going to be a great chance to meet the players.

When we got there we were given our guest passes but first we went over to the practice nets to watch the Sri Lankans and give them a cheer.

While the boys were doing that Lauren and I (Jessica) had a great talk to Clare Cannon who is a leader in Girls in Sport.

All us then went into the MCC Library which was pretty amazing.

At the end of talk with the librarian we all had the honour to sign the guest book.

We then found our seats near the players’ race with perfect seats behind the players bench. We Sri Lankans of course had to sit behind the Sri Lankan players’ box in the first innings as Australia bowled.

With the temperature at 9pm still a balmy 30 degrees we were now in short-sleeves and enjoying the cricket.

We saw David Warner hitting his 2000th T20 run — the first Australian to do so — and also saw Steve Smith get out (which is unusual!).

At the end of the game we had one more surprise as were taken to the Sri Lankan bench to shake hands with some of the players.

We are all going back again in March and hope to be part of the world record crowd for a Women’s T20 international Final.

Why don’t you come too?
