MYSTERY surrounds the discovery of a body in a Belmont park on Saturday morning, with police labelling the death “suspicious”.
Police were called to the Barwon Valley Park on Barrabool Rd following reports a man’s body was found before 7.30am.
A crime scene was quickly established and a toilet block, where the body of a man appeared to be slumped on the ground, was cordoned off.
MYSTERY continues to surround the discovery of a body in a Belmont park on Saturday morning, with police labelling the death “suspicious”.
Officers were called to the Barwon Valley Park on Barrabool Rd following reports a man’s body was found before 7.30am. A crime scene was quickly established and a toilet block was blocked off with police tape. A the body of a man appeared to be slumped on the ground.
Police have not revealed the identity or age of the man.
“The exact circumstances surrounding the suspicious death are still being established and a crime scene has been set up,” Victoria Police Sergeant Julie-Anne Newman said.
The park is across the road from a popular family holiday park and near the Barwon River, which teems with people during the summer holidays.
The State Emergency Service and homicide detectives were at the scene on Saturday morning.
Social media was abuzz with speculation as to the cause of the man’s death over the weekend, but police have not confirmed a cause.
