Pair sent to jail for shooting

- RUSTY WOODGER

TWO men have been jailed over a brazen shooting at a Corio home last year.

A shot was fired through the front door of a Fairbairn Drive property when two masked assailants appeared with a gun.

Gordon Black, 37, and Bradley Taylor, 34, were sentenced in the County Court to prison terms after admitting their involvement in the incident on October 27 last year.

The pair were wearing balaclavas when they knocked on the door of the home about 8.15am.

A previous court hearing was told the two men went to the home over an unwanted sexual advance towards a woman.

Another two men, aged in their 40s, were inside the property when one of them opened the door to find the attackers armed with a 22-calibre gun.

He quickly shut the door before a bullet was fired into the house — grazing the man’s face — and became embedded in a wall.

The two men inside the home later told investigators they believed they were going to die in the incident.

Court documents reveal Taylor sourced the ammunition used in the offence and drove Black to the property to carry out the shooting.

The car used by the pair was found dumped in Whittington two days later, with fingerprint evidence linking it to the culprits.

Black and Taylor, both of North Geelong, pleaded guilty to firearm-related charges including discharging a shot at a premises.

Black was jailed earlier this month for 5½ years, with a non-parole period of three years, eight months.

Taylor, meanwhile, was sentenced on Friday to a prison term of four years, eight months. He must serve two years and 11 months before being eligible for parole.
