“Boxing Day extends the Christmas flavour and allows tourists to not only enjoy Geelong and the Bellarine but also stay and shop,” Mr Gulli said.

“(Boxing Day) is a bit of time honoured tradition for a lot of families. It’s a good time to get out there and put some money into local businesses.”

Myer Geelong will open at 8am, and general manager Tony Sutton said it was the retailer’s biggest trading day.

“Our stocktake sale will have fantastic promotions across men’s and women’s fashion, home and entertainment with great offers on some of our biggest brands like Bose, KitchenAid, and LG TVs, to name just a few.”

Meanwhile, Target Geelong will open from 8am to 9pm today and will offer 50 per cent off pillows and quilts and 20 per cent of pools, water toys, DVDs, beach towels, air beds, boardgames and coloured pencils.
